The development of agriculture is inseparable from water. The people of the Anjo area had been planning to construct irrigation water on the plateau since the 19th century. This plan was realized in 1880, and the completed irrigation water was named Meiji Yosui (irrigation canal). When the Canal was completed, the area’s rice paddies covered 2,300 hectares, but by 1907 this had expanded to over 8,000 hectares. On this tour, we will visit the intake of Meiji Yosui, other facilities, and the Water Environment Museum to learn about the 100 years of Meiji Yosui. Prof. Doi of Nagoya University will talk about the Canal and agriculture.
