Explore Japan: Handcrafted Japanese Paper and Swords – Historic Towns of Mino and Seki (Archive)

Handcrafted Japanese paper is used for a variety of purposes, including shoji paper, mounting paper, paper lanterns, Japanese umbrellas, interior lighting, artificial flowers, and the restoration of national treasures. The town of Mino is known for handcrafted Japanese paper (Hon-minoshi). We will experience how paper is made. The town is known for its historic streets.

In the neighboring city of Seki, we will observe the forging of Japanese swords by sword masters and learn about traditional techniques from them.

We will welcome international graduate students and their family in the greater Nagoya area.

Destination: Towns of Mino and Seki, Gifu prefecture.

Meeting place & Time: Parking lot area, Toyoda Auditorium, Nagoya University 9:15 a.m. The bus departs the campus at 9:30 a.m. sharp.
