Explore Japan: Traditional Roof Tile (oni-gawara) and Thermal Power Plant (Archive)

The Mikawa region near Nagoya is famous for its roof tiles, including the highly decorative oni-gawara (demon tiles). In Takahama City, we will learn about the Japanese tile industry by hearing about the production process from “oni-shi” (demon tile artists) from Mikawa region.

Located near Takahama City is the Hekinan Thermal Power Plant, the largest coal-fired power plant in Japan. At this power plant, experiments are being conducted to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by using ammonia as a fuel. At this event, we will take a bus tour of the power plant.

We will welcome international graduate students and their families in the greater Nagoya area.

Destination: Towns of Takahama and Hekinan, Aichi prefecture

Meeting place & Time: Parking lot area, Toyoda Auditorium, Nagoya University 9:15 a.m. The bus departs the campus at 9:30 a.m. sharp.
