Just like your home countries, Japan also has its own traditional music. This traditional music, called Wagaku, uses many instruments such as tudumi (drums) and shamisen (three-stringed lute). This time, the “’Dento no Oto to Mai’ Jikko Iinkai” (‘Sounds and Dances of Tradition’ Executive Committee) will offer an event for international students to experience Wagaku, receive introductory lessons on drums and three-stringed lute, and interact with junior and senior high school students learning Wagaku and their teachers. You can also share stories about your country’s traditional music. It’s a great opportunity to see what a Japanese junior high school is like.
*Nagauta (meaning long song) emerged in the 18th century, as part of Kabuki theater.
