Growing cities demand more water. Nagoya is continuing its efforts to secure water sources. We will visit Inuyama water-intake, Inuyama Castle, and the Iwaya Dam. Inuyama Castle provides a perfect vantage point to understand the water system for Nagoya. Iwaya Dam is a multi-purpose dam approximately 140 km upstream from the mouth of the Kiso River. We will learn Nagoya‘s strategy to construct the dam and how Nagoya uses water from the Inuyama intake. This is one-day bus tour and we will spend some time in an old town of Inuyama and visit its castle. Inuyama Castle, a national treasure, was built in 1537 and its castle tower is the oldest existing one in Japan.

We have learned how Nagoya provides quality water and treats sewerage for over a century. Now, we will learn how Nagoya developed its water resources. Professor Adachi Mamoru, geologist and professor emeritus of Nagoya University, will talk about these water resources in terms of geology, history, and culture. We will visit the old residence of Mr. KATO Somou, one of the pioneers of modernizing Japan in the mid-19th century.
